40‑Mile Bike Race • Lyons, Colorado • February 1, 2026
COS Racing Masters delivered a strong set of performances at the 2026 Old Man Winter Rally in Lyons, Colorado. Despite the event’s winter branding, conditions were unusually mild for early February, with bluebird skies, warm temperatures, and minimal wind— creating optimal conditions for fast racing. Many riders noted that the day felt more like “Old Man Spring” than winter.
Team Results
J. Erik Hartel led the team with an excellent ride, joining the early front selection and ultimately finishing in the second group on the road. Hartel placed 27th overall out of 656 men with a time of 1:46:21, earning 4th place in the men’s 50–59 age group. His finishing group included the top women’s competitors, including Olympian Gwen Jorgensen.
Teamwork and Sportsmanship
A notable moment occurred during the Boulder Reservoir section, where George York crashed while navigating a technical stretch. Graham Thompson, who was riding strongly at the time, stopped to assist his teammate—demonstrating commendable sportsmanship and team commitment. Both riders lost significant time but still produced solid results.
