Fruita, CO – May 3, 2025 – Four determined athletes representing COS Racing – Brian McCall, Dennis Patton, Pete Galeotti, and Matt Wright – recently tackled the demanding 18 Hours of Fruita mountain bike race at Highline State Park, northwest of Fruita. Facing a challenging course and a deep field of competition, the team emerged with a commendable fourth-place finish out of 24 teams.

The endurance event commenced at midnight on Saturday, May 3rd, and continued until 6:00 PM that evening. It tested the limits of both rider and machine against the unique desert landscape. The approximately 7-mile circuit, which snaked around a picturesque lake, presented riders with a relentless series of twists and turns, compounded by significant sections of energy-sapping loose sand. The abrasive environment proved particularly challenging for bike drivetrains.

To conquer the extended race, COS Racing implemented a strategic rider rotation. The initial plan involved each rider completing two laps before transitioning to a "one lap on, three laps off" system. The team later agreed that this approach proved crucial for maximizing rest and recovery throughout the grueling event, especially given the stark temperature fluctuations of the desert, from chilly overnight lows to sweltering daytime heat.

Despite the demanding conditions, team morale remained high. The  camaraderie and mutual support amongst McCall, Patton, Galeotti, and Wright fueled their efforts throughout the long hours on the saddle. By the race's midpoint, the COS Racing squad had positioned itself in a strong fourth place, steadily gaining ground on the third-place team. However, a late-emerging competitor briefly disrupted their momentum. Undeterred, the COS Racing riders rallied, demonstrating resilience and determination to reclaim their fourth-place position in the highly competitive field ultimately.

Beyond the on-course action, the event fostered a strong sense of community, with participants enjoying excellent camping facilities and camaraderie. The 18 Hours of Fruita's diverse range of racing categories has sparked enthusiasm within the COS Racing ranks for future participation. Speculation is already mounting about the possibility of multiple COS Racing teams, and perhaps even solo riders, taking on the challenge in the coming years.

Local enthusiasts are encouraged to check out photos and videos capturing the COS Racing team's impressive performance and their triumphant conquest of the challenging 18 Hours of Fruita course. This strong showing underscores the dedication and skill within the COS Racing community.
